Overview

The DataStripes spreadsheet is a powerful, Excel-compatible grid for managing, analyzing, and visualizing your data. You can edit values, apply formulas, format cells, and leverage advanced features like multi-sheet support, context menus, and keyboard shortcuts.

Basic Editing

  1. Select a cell by clicking on it with your mouse.

  2. Enter edit mode by double-clicking the cell or pressing F2.

  3. Type your value or start with = to enter a formula.

  4. Press Enter to save your changes, or Tab to move to the next cell.

  5. Navigate using the arrow keys, Tab, or Shift+Tab.

Using the Context Menu

Right-click on any cell, row, or column header to open the context menu. Available actions include:

  • Copy, cut, and paste

  • Insert or delete rows and columns

  • Duplicate rows

  • Clear cell contents or formatting

  • Add comments or notes

  • Access AI and widget creation tools directly from the grid

Formatting Cells

  1. Select one or more cells or an entire column/row.

  2. Choose formatting options from the toolbar or context menu:

    • Number, currency, date, or text format

    • Font size, color, and style

    • Cell background color

    • Borders and alignment

  3. Use conditional formatting to highlight cells based on rules (e.g., values above a threshold).

Working with Multiple Sheets

  • Add new sheets using the + tab at the bottom.

  • Rename, duplicate, or delete sheets via the sheet tab context menu.

  • Move or reorder sheets by dragging their tabs.

Advanced Editing Features

  • Fill Handle: Drag the fill handle (bottom-right corner of a selected cell) to auto-fill values or formulas across a range.

  • Multi-cell Editing: Select a range and type to overwrite all selected cells at once.

  • Find & Replace: Use Ctrl+F to search and Ctrl+H to replace values across the sheet.

  • Freeze Panes: Pin rows or columns for easier navigation in large datasets.

  • Data Validation: Restrict input types or set dropdown lists for specific columns.

Undo & Redo

  • Press Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Y to redo changes.

  • The undo history is preserved per sheet.

Collaboration

  • If enabled, see real-time edits from collaborators (requires shared project).

  • Use comments to discuss changes directly in the sheet.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use keyboard shortcuts for faster navigation (see the full list in the help menu).

  • Double-click cell borders to auto-fit column width or row height.

  • Use the formula bar for complex formulas and to see the full formula text.

  • Save your work frequently, especially before making bulk changes.

  • Use the version history to restore previous states if needed.

Troubleshooting

  • If you accidentally delete data, use Undo immediately.

  • For performance with large datasets, filter or hide unused rows/columns.

  • If formulas are not calculating, check for syntax errors or missing references.

Multi-sheet Support

  • Switch between sheets using the tabs at the bottom.

  • Reference other sheets in formulas using SheetName!A1 syntax.
